Earth & Fire
Primitive Pottery for Beginners
There is something remarkable about taking earth from the ground and making a vessel with your own hands.
In this workshop, we work with locally sourced clay, learning how to select, process and shape it using simple tools. We spend time getting to know the material, feeling how it responds to water and touch, and learning what it needs to hold its form.
The process culminates in a traditional pit firing. Heat, ash and the atmosphere of the fire leave their marks on the pieces, bringing changes we can influence but never entirely predict.
No pottery experience is needed. Come curious, ready to experiment and get your hands dirty.
Meditation & Mud
A guided practice in attention, making and letting go
Meditation & Mud is a guided clay practice informed by Zen meditation. It offers time to slow down, work with your hands and feel your connection to the earth through the material in front of you.
We begin with an introduction to clay, then spend time sitting with it, noticing its weight, texture and response to touch. Gentle guidance in pinch pots and coils gives us a starting point. From there, we follow our hands and curiosity, allowing forms to emerge without needing to decide in advance what they should become.
At the end, we pause to thank the materials, then undo what we have made and return the clay to a form that can be used again. It is a small practice in impermanence, giving our attention and care to something without needing to keep it.
There is no finished object to take home. The invitation is to spend time making, notice what comes up, and practice letting go.
No experience with clay or meditation is needed.
